Ozlo Sleepbuds for Side Sleepers: My Honest Sleepbuds 2 Review

by Saul Barden

Have you ever found yourself lying awake because of noises you can’t control, like a partner’s snoring, a neighbor’s dog, or the hum of a hotel air conditioner? I started dealing with this during my pre-COVID travel days, when I bought a cheap pair of earplugs just to get through hotel stays. Blocking out noise made a bigger difference in my sleep than almost anything else I’d tried. Research supports this too: a sleep-lab study published in the journal SLEEP found that people exposed to aircraft noise lost about 23 minutes of deep sleep each night compared to a quiet room. But wearing earplugs helped them recover more than 70% of that lost deep sleep, without affecting REM sleep.

So when I started looking for sleep earbuds, I already knew that blocking noise really works. The real question was which pair could do it comfortably, all night long. After trying almost everything, I settled on the Ozlo Sleepbuds 2. If you’ve been comparing Ozlo Sleepbuds for Side Sleepers like I was, here’s why these are the ones that finally worked for me.

Why I Switched from the Soundcore A30

I used to rely on the Soundcore A30 and still think it’s a good option. But the Sleepbuds 2 are clearly smaller and lighter, which made all the difference for me. Ozlo even shares this comparison themselves:

Weight (per bud)HeightBattery Life
Ozlo Sleepbuds 21.6 g11 mmUp to 14 hours
Soundcore A302.4 g13 mmUp to 10 hours
AirPods Pro 35.2 g20 mmUp to 5–6 hours

I also tried the original Ozlo Sleepbuds before these and ended up returning them. The Sleepbuds 2 are the version that finally got it right.

How They Actually Work

Ozlo doesn’t use active noise cancellation (ANC), which is the technology found in most regular earbuds. Instead, it relies on passive blocking from the silicone tips and something called “noise masking.” This means it plays a steady, tuned sound that helps your brain focus on something consistent, rather than unpredictable noises that might wake you up. Independent testing from Tom’s Guide supports this, describing the fit as “superbly comfortable, even for side sleepers” and saying the masking really works to block out disturbances.

Ozlo Sleepbuds for Side Sleepers: The Comfort Test

This is what really matters if you sleep on your side. Comfort is everything with sleep earbuds. No one sleeps well with something pressing into their ear all night, and the size difference I mentioned earlier is exactly why I switched.

Pro tip: I sleep with an ear pillow that has a cutout pocket for each ear, and here’s the best trick I’ve found. I tuck the Smart Case, which holds all the buds’ controls, into whichever ear pocket I’m not using at the moment. It’s easy to find in the dark, so pressing the button to switch between Bluetooth and local playback is simple and doesn’t require searching around on a nightstand.

So, Are Ozlo Sleepbuds Good for Side Sleepers?

After ten days of use (I started July 31), my answer is yes. Here’s what my nightly routine looks like:

  1. I start the night streaming this bedtime prayer and meditation video over Bluetooth.
  2. When it ends, I switch the buds to local playback. My favorite built-in sound is “Warm Glow,” which I play at about 45% volume.
  3. If I wake up too early, I switch back to local sound and open the Pzizz app to fall back asleep.

One honest, minor downside is that the Sleepbuds don’t always detect when I’ve actually fallen asleep, so they don’t reliably switch from streaming to noise masking by themselves. This isn’t a big deal for me since I already switch between Bluetooth and local manually, but it’s something to know before you buy. I’d also like to see a bigger library of local sounds, since the current selection is a bit limited.

What I don’t take for granted: the app itself is great. Having a light confirm the buds are seated and charging properly is huge. There’s nothing worse than settling in for bed and then discovering a charging or connection issue.

What Other Owners Are Saying

Ozlo’s Sleepbuds 2 currently have a 4.2 out of 5 star rating from over 3,000 verified reviews, and 78% of reviewers say they would recommend them. People consistently praise the comfort, the noise masking that really works against snoring, and, for those upgrading from the first generation, the longer battery life. The most common complaint is the price. One 4-star reviewer put it simply: “The price is high.” That’s fair, and it’s something to consider before you buy.

Price and Value

Sleepbuds 2 are $279, which currently includes a sleep mask and travel case Ozlo normally sells separately (a $337 combined value). A few things soften that number: they’re HSA/FSA eligible, they come with a 30-day return policy and a 1-year warranty (two years in the EU/UK), and there’s an optional OzloCare protection plan ($40/year) if you want the peace of mind.

Bottom Line: Ozlo Sleepbuds for Side Sleepers

Here’s my bottom line on Ozlo Sleepbuds for Side Sleepers: if you sleep on your side and noise is keeping you from a full night’s rest, the Sleepbuds 2 are the most comfortable and longest-lasting option I’ve tried. They’re smaller than the A30 and a real improvement over Ozlo’s first generation. The price is the honest tradeoff. This isn’t an impulse buy; it’s an investment in better, uninterrupted sleep.

What’s your own noise-blocking setup? I’d love to hear what’s working for you.
